Well it arrived around noon. It's freaking beautiful. It really is almost a work of art. I can't believe I have one. All went well, cover is on back order, I messed up one of the temp gauges...I know I know...I feel stupid, have to order another one of those...I wasn't paying attention and was using the face of the gauge to turn it to screw it in and it kind of broke. Then I noticed a nut undernieth that I should of used a wrench on. Did it with the other one though. Perfect. The broke one is on and looks normal I just don't know if it will read ok, if it does I'll just let that be that... There is a rod like thing that has a scraper type deal at one end...?? Is that for the coals and wood? Didn't see that in the "comes with list". Oh...and the door on the fire box, the swinging air vent is super loose...the screw is tight though, anybody else have this or is this normal?

Had to throw the beach in didn't ya? Lol. I became a member of the pitboss forum website and the next day had one of those posted for sale for 49.00. Got one. But still want those to work. Another question, on the firebox air vent, the handle is facing in, and all the pictures it's facing out. Didn't see anywhere in the manual saying to change that. May be a dumb question. Or an obvious one. I guess I'm supposed to turn that around.

Yes, turn the damper around, it's that way for shipping.

Make sure you season that sucker good, and I recommend getting a propane torch. I use it to clean the grates, fire the grates with the torch, then scrub with grill brush. I got my wichita in the spring, and had a great summer, and learned a lot. Keep the questions coming.

Thanks Paul...I will. How exactly did you season yours? Wash the grates, add oil and do the recommended seasoning or something extra or different? Thanks.

I soaked a towel in vegetable oil, then wiped the enter yoder, inside, out and grill, then ran the smoker at around 250ish all day with a foil pan full of bacon. Not sure if it's the textbook way, but it worked for me, (and the bacon was like candy)...
