My Cheyenne came without the port for temperature probes. I've seen where you can buy a device to install a port, but it appears to require drilling into the smoker. I'm a little nervous about putting a hole in my new smoker, plus it seems like pretty thick material.
I'm moderately handy. Are there any special techniques or tools I should use?

Just a good battery drill and a good bit. It's not tool steel, so it cuts pretty easy.

There is a walk through on The forum. Herb can point you in that direction. I put a door thermometer in and it was easy. Make sure to put a piece of tape over the area you are going to penetrate and that will help keep the paint from flaking. I just tapped a point with a center punch, drilled a 3/16" pilot and then used a step drill bit one step at a time until it fit. Super easy!
