ACS upgrade

I helped a friend update his smoker last weekend to the new acs controller. once we had it up and running it appeared to work correctly but it didn't display the wifi single at the controller, it was displayed on his app. I have a 2019 model and it displays the wifi signal on my controller. Does anyone know if there has been a change in the operating systems that doesn't have it display the wifi signal on the newer controllers?
