Here are pictures of the portable power box I made to run a YS1500 and a YS640 at BBQ Comps. This will run both cookers for an entire comp, and probably the entire weekend if needed. We also have run LED lights and an electric knife with no issues. Batteries are type 27 deep cycle and wired in parallel. The 12vdc inverter is wired by attaching the positive lead to one battery and the negative lead to the other battery. This allows the inverter to drain power from both batteries as though they were one big battery. The 12vdc charger is wired the same as the inverter.

The batteries alone were almost $250. Right at $500, but using lesser components would make it cheaper. I also used oversized cables, which were not cheap, and digital inverter and charger.

For the less electrically inclined can you list the steps in some detail? Please?

Not sure what steps that you are requesting. This has the ability to cause serious bodily harm, so if you are not versed in working with electricity, I would strongly suggest not undertaking a project like this. If you do, it is entirely at your own risk.

The one that I used was a 750 watt, which was much larger than required. It was a Schumacher X175DU. No GFI other than the inverter.

Found the 2 battery more than adequate. But very heavy. Any idea about running time for 1500 using one battery in a comp. group 23 size. Guess I could get bigger.if needed

I would suggest a complete practice cook, using your timings, as a test.

I am not familiar with that device. The YS1500 draws approximately 250 watts at startup for about 8 minutes and then draws approximately 50 watts for the duration of the cooking session.
