Failing thermocouple? Ys640

Temp gauge on the controller is going crazy... Will do 50 degree temp swings in 10 seconds...

Noticed problem when we ran it out of pellets an hour ago. Caught it when we went outside and guage read 580degrees (set temp 325)
It had started cooling down, (you could touch the metal)

We turned it off, unplugged it then started it again and primed till we heard peets dropping. Temp guage shot to over 500 again!

Trying to finish the turkey set up the igrill and monitored actual temps and took this quick video

Video uploading... Just a small sample and lousy filming in the dark had a hard time focusing... Temp is Wilder than the video sometimes. I keep priming it to get pellets in it to get the temp up

Any advise?

Sounds like a bad thermocouple. Best option would be to finish the turkey in the oven at this point.

Video still processing.

Wow fast response herb! Oven is full at the moment...

Display went from 275-244 in two flashes lol

Can't remember what the warranty is on the thermocouple... Bought the smoker spring of 2014

Video says it is private, so I am unable to see it.

After seeing the video, I'm not convinced it is the thermocouple. For a bad thermocouple, you will normally see a high temp displayed, and the controller will immediately go into cool down mode.

You are showing heat up mode, and erratic temperature displays.

Do you unplug your cooker when not in use? The video shows a classic example of what can happen when the cooker is not unplugged after use, or isn't plugged in right before use.

Yes, this video was taken after it was unplugged and restarted... I typically unplug it before starting, easier than remembering to unplug it after the cool down mode...

I just started a test run empty to see what it does... Controller shortly went right up to the 250° range before pellets even lit...

Also was a Humming sound coming from controller area ...maybe related to the fan?it stopped after a minute... And fan is running normally

Remembered I didn't clean out the burn grate so shut it down, unplugged it. Cleaned out the grate and started fresh again....

Controller read heat up mode/350 for a minute then before pellets lit read 180 +/- 30° erratically for about another minute then back to heat up mode then back to erratic and alternated a few times... Then started climbing fast taking about a minute to get high 500° holding at 586°and showing maintenance mode not cool down. Actual temp through this period climbing from 130-160.

It held at 586 for a couple mins actual getting to 190 before I shut it down...

Mine just started today when I started it up jumping all the way to 586*. It won't come down and the pit is barely hot.

Mine just got the dreaded 586 and I just started two pork shoulders. Not sure what I should do about the pork. I’ve replaced the thermocoupler twice already and always leave my Yoder unplugged when I'm not using it.
