I have a YS640. What's the average most folks get on it with pork butts? Gotta big party to cook for. Figures about 107 lbs of uncooked pork.
Thanks
I always figure about 50% yield. Sometimes it is a little more but 50% is a good figure to go by. So, 107lbs of uncooked meat should get you about 53lbs of pulled pork. That would be enough for about 210, 4oz sandwiches using regular 4-in. hamburger buns. If you are not doing sandwiches, I usually figure about 6oz of pulled pork per person if it is a mixed group of Men, Women and Children, so your 107lbs would be enough for about 140 people.
I just realized what you were asking. I think you were actually asking how many butts you can get on the 640. If you have 107lbs, I am assuming you have about 12 - 14 butts. I just got my 640 not too long ago so I haven't loaded it up like that. You might get them all on there but it will be tight I think. I would think you could get 12 and maybe 13 on there, but not sure about 14.
Remember not to overload the cooker. You still need a little space between each butt for airflow or things could cook a little wonky. So don't pack it tight.
Mike, it was still some very good information in your first post. Thanks
Yeah, I was wondering about how many other cooks got on thier 640's. Good info though!! I approach it pretty much the same way.
Thanks
I have done 12 on a 640 numerous times, but like Kirby said, things can get a little wild, and, you have to manage the cooking process more.
