Hello,

Just got my Yoder Wichita (fully loaded) and struggling with the fire.

By the way I'm in the UK, and have always BBQ'd so I thought it was time to up my game and got into smoking. I've never used a stick burner before so I know I'm probably making loads of beginner mistakes, but hey I'm really enjoying it.

So here's the question.

I'm confused about the fire grate in the Wichita, when i put my embers on the grate (using oak lump charcoal) a good proportion of the embers just falls through the holes. Then in time I'm left with very little embers and just this smoldering log (not combusting).

So what I'm I doing wrong, or are you supposed to just end up with just the log, If so why is it just smoldering? Hope I've given enough info here.

Any help would be really appreciative.

Thanks from the UK.

YorkshireMan.
