Hello from WA State, I've had a 480 for several years and have had great success with it until it broke down the other day.
I called customer service and talked to Joey Hemphill, we talked about the problem, I have a new thermocoupler coming and was eligible for some updates I didn't even know about.
I just want to thank Joey for his help, he is the best of the best, this guy gets things done, Thank You Joey!!!

Hi Herb

I have a YS640. I have about a November 2016 model with U29 H/W version. I cook about 2x per week. The fan and auger work fine. I mostly cook at 250-275. My process at startup is after I hit start, I let the smoker heat up to 350 or where ever it ends up until it flat-lines usually in 25 minutes around 350. About a month ago, it would always heat-up above 350 to low 400's and then settle back to 350ish. I'd just let it do that until it settled in and then reduce to my target temp. Lately it gets only to 350 and hits flat line. Maybe that's fine but I noticed that was different for me.

The problem I am facing now, when it gets to 350ish I will then hit decrease temp to my target. When I do this after about 5 minutes it shows the downward lines but the speed it decreases and the downward temp is not really happening. It will never get to the lower temp and sometimes the downward lines continue or they go flat.

Let me explain. I'll hit 270 and the down lines show but it will never get there. At best it may get from 350 to 300 and then flat line. So I then after some time will decrease the temp again and even though it says 270 on the set temp, the internal temp will read 300 degrees. So what I have to do to get 300 degrees down is to set it to 225. Then I see a noticeable difference and it will go much lower. I have to do each decrease a couple of times. It's not reliable after 100 cooks.

Anything you can think of of?

The absolute best thing to do is our temperature verification test. This will give us the required data and pictures to properly troubleshoot your issue.

Please accomplish the test exactly as it is written, and send us the data and requested photos to customerservice@yodersmokers.com: download/Best%20Practice%20and%20how%20to/Yoder%20Pellet%20Temperature%20Test%20v2.pdf

Hi Herb

I emailed my test data and pictures yesterday. I wanted to check-in and see if Yoder customer service received them. I am planning to cook this weekend so wondering if there is anything I need to do differently or if you have any suggestions before the test data is analyzed? Thank you as always.

Hello, I am trying to light my smoker and the igniter Rod is turning red however it is not lighting the pellets on fire. I have 15 people coming over for a Super Bowl party and I need to get these ribs on the smoker right away. Can someone please email or call me with a solution so that my party isn’t completely ruined.
