So i know the technical answer to this question is going to be "Dont leave your smoker unattended"... I get it.

But, when smoking a cut of meat all day long has anyone had any issues leaving their pellet grill running while away to the office or on errands? Obviously I would have a WiFi temp probe so I can monitor activity on my phone but I see this as a huge plus to being able to smoke meat on a weekday. Come home at lunch and check progress but let it run most the day. I am just curious if the group has had major issues with hopper fires or other issues that would really make me think twice about this.

Disclamier... I realize this is a live fire and leaving it unattended for hours on end is probably not the absolute best practice but I am sure everyone does it and these are a "set it and forget it" grill.

So what are your best practices for this non best practice?

I don't think anyone wants to touch this topic.... Is it that bad of an idea?

When I do butts or brisket I start at 10 at night, monitor for 30 min or so and go to bed till 4 or 5 AM. Hope that helps.

Not sure what you are asking. Could you elaborate please.

I have had my cooker running for over 24 hours numerous times. I have also cooked on it for 10+ hours daily for a week at a time with no issues, following the normal best practice and cleaning: download/Best%20Practice%20and%20how%20to/Recommend%20procedure%20for%20starting%20up%20a%20Yoder%20pellet%20cooker.pdf

Thanks guys... I guess what I am asking is has anyone had issues leaving the unit alone for 4-5 hours while away?

The manual states that the cooker should not be left unattended.
