Just got my YS 640 last weekend. While doing the first burnoff, I noticed smoke and sparks coming out between the bottom off my pellet hopper and the smoker. When I looked inside by the burn grate I noticed a small opening under the igniter tube that looks like it should be there. I'm wondering if there is a seal between the hopper and grill that could be defective? Any help would be appreciated.

The opening under the igniter is supposed to be there, and open.

During a cook today I noticed smoke coming out between the bottom of my pellet hopper and the smoker on my YS 640. Is this normal?

Yes, this is normal. Make sure that your cooker is always clean before using, and that the chimney is not restricted.
