I have been reading a lot on the Yoder FB page about people having temp fluctuation problems and the common method suggested to fix this is not to foil the heat deflector. Can anyone confirm this as being the problem? I have always foiled mine and have never noticed a temp fluctuation outside of normal fluctuation +-10°

If you are not having an issue, foil on! If there is excess foil that falls over the edges of the diffuser, it may cause high temperature fluctuations because of the foil blocking the air flow and causing hot spots.
