After powering up my YS640 and pressing start, it will not come up to initial set temp of 350F. In fact the ceramic igniter gets hot enough to turn orange and ignite the pellets, but the yoder does not come up to set temp and the exterior of the smoker remains cold to the touch. The temp display shows the set temp (350F) and the temp decreasing (Dashes going down from left to right). My YS640 was manufactured on 040418, serial number 37337, has firmware U29 installed and delivered May 18. Do I need to replace the termocouple or something else wrong with my smoker?

Mine just started doing this exact same thing the other day. I am going to look it over on my next day off. I will let you know what I figure out.

I just had this EXACT same scenario! I cannot get the grill to get out of COOL DOWN mode. The lines scroll from top left down to bottom right. Grill doesnt get hot enough to even warm coffee. Did either of you find a solution? Pretty disappointing to have ribs and roast ready to go only to have to use the oven lol.

This is my first post here. Does Yoder have any representation on this forum? Just curious. Doesnt appear to be a very active forum.

Thanks!

T

Joining the thread - exact same problem on my YS640C

In addition, the temp readout (with 350 as the target) will rapidly ascend to 490 or something in a matter of a minute (the smoker does not) always show decreasing mode.

Hi all: I just went through all of this - turns out I had a bad thermocouple. Mine is from 2016, and was on V28 - so I did the upgrade to V29 (was very easy with great instructions), and I did switch to the short thermocouple.

I had the same problem and called Customer Service. I was told that this is usually a bad thermocouple if you have the standard controller. It is under warranty for 3 years. I ordered new one. Hopefully it fixes the problem.
