Have an oven that has an automatic cleaning setting. Was wondering if it would hurt to put the cooking grates in the oven to clean them when we clean the oven? It gets hot enough that all the spills ect. in the oven turns to ash.

Sure, the grates can handle direct heat so why not? IHMO though.

The bottom of the oven is where the real heat is, it radiates through the steel. The bottom of the oven right on the metal is over 500f for sure, don't know what the air temp gets to.

Most ovens specify that the grates must be removed from the oven before cleaning, so I think that putting your cooker grates in there might not be a good idea either. Other than my opinion, I have no real answer to give you.

I would say no. As Herb said ovens clearly state to remove their racks during cleaning, so adding any others is not a good idea.

Weber makes an excellent Grate Cleaning Solution that i use after each cook and after spraying it on the grates and waiting a few minutes it wipes clean very easily!
