I picked out a 4.4lbs (half) butt the other day, bone in. I have never cooked one. Found a good recipe that calls for about 14hrs for a 6-8lbs butt. So I'm doing easy math of about 2hrs/lbs?? I'll cook on top rack at 230* --- at least that's the plan! ;) That sound right? Looking for guideance!

This depends on the meat and the cooking temperature. 1 1/2 to 2 lbs. an hours at 225 is a good guess. The important thing is to plan on some rest time, at least an hour for FTC, longer doesn't hurt and is probably better. Remember, you cook to tenderness, not to the clock. If you start earlier, you can FTC for 4 hours easy.

If you are setting the smoker at 230 and expecting that temp on the top rack, you will be a lot closer to 200f on the top rack. Bump the smoker to 250 if you want 230 on the top rack.
