Can someone describe how to foil a diffuser plate appropriately or better yet, post pictures? I want to make sure I don't screw this up.

Buy a roll of heavy duty foil, the wide one. Reynolds Wrap. Spread it over the plate, leaving about 1" on each end. Smooth it out and tuck the ends under the plate smoothly. Once you done it a few times it's easy.

Make sure your first few uses you don't use foil, to let the plate settle in.

You want the 18" wide foil.

Yep, and it's a perfect size. Yoder made the plate 18" wide so it fits perfect.
