Hi all. New to the forum and this is my first real post aside from my hello message.

When cooking on my ys640 I get ash on the surface of the cooking grate closest to the burn pot. It is not a lot and it is only in the far back corner of the grate. I just want to know if this is something that is normal or could I be doing something that is causing the ash to blow on to the grate surface.

Thanks - Yodergirl in Jersey

That at is normal. I just brush it off and spray the grates with oil to recoat.

I always make sure that the diffuser plate is perfectly centered front to back, and push it up tight against the hopper end wall.

If Kirby's and Herb's suggestions didn't resolve your problem, it could be the pellets you're using. I've had that issue with some pellets but not with others. Both Traeger and Green Mountain, in particular, have caused ash problems for me and I no longer use either brand. I've never had an ash issue with either BBQr's Delight or Perfect Mix.

Couldn't agree more with the post/advice given... Just to add from my experience, if You wrap the diffuser with foil to ease cleanup, MAKE SURE YOU'VE WRAPPED THE EDGES TIGHTLY over the edges as well...
