I did a 3 hour, low temp. 180 degree smoke, using my A-Maze-N tube smoker on a load of Jalapeno peppers. Smoke leaked out constantly from the left and right sides of the door. There was no creosote buildup in this area so I'm thinking Nomex tape may help with the leakage. Has anybody done this with their YS 640? If so, what size tape did you use?

THUMPERRRR and Conumdrum, thanks for replying to my question. Two more questions: What was the width and length of the tape? And what did you use to clean the area before applying the tape? Thanks in advance!

I wanted to ensure maximum adhesion so I used a scraper/putty knife then wire brush,,,
then sandpaper then wiped down with acetone to as clean as I could possibly get it ...
I got enough to do my whole outfit,,, twice...
my cooker is a 20" Durango so the sizes I used don't apply...(sorry)

measure it out man!!!

I used the 3/4" wide Nomex self-adhesive. I bought a custom cut length (15') because I initially was considering sealing the entire lid. Chose not to. I have a good fit AND probe ports.. The 3/4" works great for sealing the smoke stack.

Just a thought, but I was getting some smoke leaking out from the hopper side of the lid and what I did was loosen the bolts on the hinge and then pushed it tight to the smoker body and tightened the screws up.

Anxiously waiting my new YS640 Silver Comp cart
