I have had my 640 for a few years and have noticed that the powder coating on the inside of the lid is flaking badly. Everytime I smoke I have to be sure and scrape off the underside of the lid so that it doesn't fall into the meat. Anybody else having this issue?

Thanks,

Greg

More than likely it is not paint, but rather cooking debris. About 3 years ago I scraped the entire underside of the lid down to the metal, and then sprayed the cleared area with canola oil and cooked it for an hour at 350. After cooking completely, I sprayed the underside of the lid again with canola oil and cooked it again for an hour at 350. This will season the metal.

I agree with Yoder_Herb. Sounds like a bad case of creosote.

I'll give that a try. Thanks for the info.
