I just purchased a YS640 and cooked on it this weekend for the first time. I noticed that there is a gap around where the chimney is inserted into the smoker body(approximately 1/8 inch gap). You can see deposits on the outside of the chimney pipe where it is leaking. I was wondering if I could put some of the door gasket material around the chimney pipe to keep the smoke from leaking out from this area? If I do seal that area will that cause any problems with the smoker or controlling the temperature of the smoker?

Nomex from amazon. 3/4" thick, make sure you super clean the area (chimney pipe) before applying. Alcohol wipes once the area is cleaned. I also used it on the door. Been 4 years and still working.

A bit of smoke leaking is fine. It's a positive pressure cooker, smoke will leak out from any area it can. And it won't affect your cook at all.
