I'm going to strip and completely repaint my Yoder this year. I must say I love my cooker but am disappointed in the paint. I have followed the touch up paint processes shown on this forum multiple times and continue to have issues.

I want to get some suggestions on a different paint brand.

Also - how many cans of spray paint do you think I'll need to do the entire grill?

I believe your questions would be better answered by the paint company you are interested in, since they potentially require multiple coats of primer and paint, and they should also specify the thickness of each coat to come up with an estimate on the volume of primer and paint required.

I just bought my YS640 in the beginning of January 2017 and the paint is already chipping in several places at the beginning of February 2017. I baby that thing, too. Quite frankly, this is unacceptable. My smoker has a date of 12/07/16 and the paint is already failing.

Upon further inspection, I noticed there are several more spots that are starting to peel.

The smoker is housed out of the rain under an enclosed deck that has a roof above that level.

Just wondering, why doesn't the factory use a primer? My paint flaked off with little to no effort and a few spots required elbow grease and stripper. As I repaint I am using a 2000*F rustoleum primer, not sure if that will help with adhesion but I would think it would.

Just wondering what the paint process looks like and why there is no primer used.

The paint used on the cookers is a DTM (direct to metal) paint that does not require a primer per the manufacturer's specifications and instructions.
